Yoga Therapy

Everyone deserves to feel good. Yoga Therapy is about getting the quality of life you want. It’s about improving your wellness. More than taking a pill, it’s taking control. We know most problems are multifaceted – shouldn’t our solutions be, too?

What is Yoga Therapy?
“Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the philosophy and practice of yoga.” (International Association of Yoga Therapy)

What is Yoga Therapy good at treating?
·         Depression
·
Anxiety
·
Stress Relief
·
Asthma
·
Back Pain
·
High Blood Pressure
·
Parkinson’s
·
Weight Loss
·         Injury recovery

There are many more areas where yoga therapy can help. At the same time, it is not a “cure all.” If I don’t think I can help you, I’ll be up front and honest about it, AND try to find someone who can help.

What does Yoga Therapy entail?
At the AJYOGA studio, yoga therapy develops a strategy for your specific interest. The process looks like this:
1. Listen to your concerns
2. Assess areas of comfort and discomfort
3. Set intentions - establish what you want to accomplish given your lifestyle
4. Plan - create a plan of practice to meet your intentions
5. Practice - one hour a week at the AJYOGA studio and some time at home
6. Evaluate - let’s take a look at how things are working
7. Adjust the plan as needed
8. Create a strategy to continue wellness improvement at home

So what’s in the practice?
Our practice consists of a menu of yoga techniques chosen together to address your concern, your lifestyle and your intentions.

Techniques can include:

·         Physical exercises or poses for stretching, strengthening and/or relaxing

·         Breathing

·         Guided visualizations

·         Deep relaxation

·         Awareness and focus practice
